Can you say....
(June 2011)
It has been about 6 weeks since we started speech therapy once a week and we have come a long way. When we started Andrew wasn't saying any word but maybe 2 or 3 and would NOT repeat ANY words at all.
About 3-4 weeks into therapy we hit a milestone, Andrew decided that he would start trying to imitate anything that you ask him to. His favorite imitation words are "B" words. And he now says "bye-bye", "Bird, bubble, and balloon". He will also imitate cookie, calls Paul Daddy, calls Violet Baby, and will say toy, tree, yes, please, and many many other words.
In fact I can't even list the words he will "imitate" because honestly he will imitate anything. But slowly the words he imitates are becoming what is called "spontaneous" words or words that he will speak without being prompted or asked to imitate. The goal is that he will start speaking spontaneously, which he hasn't yet. Although some words like daddy, baby, and bye bye have become spontaneous words which started as only imitation words.
Overall his therapist is VERY happy with his progress. He went from not saying anything to at least being able to imitate words in just a few short weeks! No mama yet, but I am soooo happy none-the-less!
