Update for Jacob
(December 2011)
It has been awhile (August) since I updated anything for Jacob. There have been a lot of changes in Jacobs lives. He is still an amazing big brother and LOVES Andrew and Violet. He gives Violet 20+ kisses a day.
After 18 months (3 6 month Dentist visits) Jacob FINALLY let the dentist clean his teeth! WOO HOO! Jacob has always been a very shy little man and has only recently started to come out of his shell. We had a heck of a time brushing Jacobs teeth when he was younger so unfortunately he had some tartar buildup on his front bottom teeth. Of course once we started have better teeth brushing it was too late to fix the tartar. So a dentist visit was needed. I found an awesome pediatric Dentist that has tv's for each chair, baloons, coin machines with prizes for a completed cleaning, fish tanks, etc....even with all of this the first time (6 months ago) Jacob was SO freaked out he cried and practically buried himself into me and wouldn't even let the dentist count his teeth. So I reluctantly booked his next appointment thinking that the same thing was going to plague us again. I figured worse case scenario his baby teeth would fall out and we can start fresh then! hehehehehehehehe
But he was excited this time, went in, picked out his tooth brush, picked out his toothpaste (chocolate), sat in the chair and not only let the dental assistant to explain to him how the water squinter and sucker was going to work, but how the toothbrush (Mr. Tickles) was going to scrub all of his teeth. He got his teeth cleaned then out came the dental pick to try and scrape off all of the tartar. My palms started sweating, but he was fine and for the first time in over a year he has perfectly clean teeth! When the dental assistant was cleaning his teeth she noticed a pinhole in one of his molars. So she recommended he get xrays! OH BOY I thought, but guess what....he sailed through that too!
He did have the very beginnings of a cavity and we booked our appointment for the following week and he went back with Paul this time and got his "laughing gas" and got his cavity filed and sealed. Luckily the cavity was on the surface so no needle was needed just a numbing cream and a mild file.
A week or so after this came an ER visit! A completely random fall ended up with Jacob busting open his chin and needing 5 stitches. He was soooooo very brave and Paul and I chose to get his "boo boo" numbed with cream instead of a needle. A decision that ended up not being for the best. We thought it would spare his the pain of the needle but then it didn't numb all the way and he ended up feeling mild pinches every time the needle went in and out of his chin. He barely shed a tear though and laid very still for the Doctor to do her job. Five days later we got the stitches out and he has one more battle scar to add to his record.
Jacob also started speech therapy 2 weeks ago and is going to an Elementary school once a week for an hour and working with the speech therapist there. He still has problems with his "K" "G" "TR" "CH" "SH" and other letter blends. The first day he was there he came home being able to make the "K" sound. He still has problems putting that sound in a work and reverts back to replacing "K" with "T" but his teacher said he is picking things up very quickly and we should have most if not all pronunciation problems resolved by the time he starts school at 6.
